Method and independence

Every rating on Omsorgsbetyg is calculated from official open data, published by Sweden's National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen), using a method that is fully disclosed. This page is the English summary; the Swedish original is the authoritative version.

Sources

The backbone is the annual national survey What do older people think of elderly care? (2025), answered by roughly 110,000 recipients of elderly care, combined with the Unit Survey where providers report staffing, competence and working methods. Catalogue facts come from the state's own comparison service, and the trend lines since 2013 come from Kolada, the municipal statistics database.

The rating

The rating combines the residents' own experience (70%) with structural quality (30%). Units with few respondents are pulled toward the national average using Bayesian shrinkage, so no unit tops a list on statistical noise. Where the sample is too small even for that, we publish no combined rating at all: an honest gap instead of a guess. Today 1,444 nursing homes and 2,336 home-care providers carry a rating.

Awards and the iron rule

Awards, national top 10% and top-ranked in the municipality, are earned facts in the data. They are always free, always visible and can never be bought, hidden or influenced by money. The only things sold are analyses of the same open data and the graphical seal of an award a unit has already earned. A licence never changes the public page.

Independence

Omsorgsbetyg is run independently of care providers and public agencies. We sell no placements, no visibility and no leads, and the site uses no cookies and no tracking.
